CHAPTER 07
Fashion & Style
Identity Worn Proudly
FASHION & STYLE
By Johnson Bryant
In New Mexico...
style doesn’t change
it stacks.
Cowboy boots meet wide-brim hats, scuffed from miles and memory.
Not costume.
Not nostalgia.
Foundation.
Hip-hop carved out its own lane not borrowed, not asking permission.
For those bold enough to set trends instead of chasing them.
Bandanas, braids, Pendletons, snapbacks, Jordans_
Silver heavy on the chest.
Beads close to the heart.
Every piece saying something before a word is spoken.
Lowriders glide past pickup trucks.
Chrome flashes under desert sun.
Tradition doesn’t flinch it nods.
Put four generations in one frame and you’ll see it clear.
The elder – pressed, rooted, steady.
The next – blending workwear with pride.
The next – remixing history with rhythm.
The youngest – loud, fearless, future-minded.
Each generation means something.
None out of place.
This is style that survives time.
Ceremony stitched into streetwear.
Cowboy grit braided with hip-hop soul.
In New Mexico,
fashion isn’t about being new -it’s about knowing who you are and wearing it without apology.
Truth,
passed down,
worn out loud.
